1. Get Your APS Certificate (Start 6–9 months ahead)
   This is the first and most critical step. Submit original academic documents to the German Embassy in Abuja for verification. Without an APS certificate, no German university will process your application.
2. Learn German or Find English-Taught Programmes
   Use DAAD's database to find English-taught master's. Over 1,500 master's programmes in Germany are fully in English. Alternatively, take certified German classes at Goethe Institut in Lagos or Abuja.
3. Apply Through Uni-Assist or Directly
   Most German universities use the Uni-Assist portal. Some (TUM, LMU) have their own portals. Apply to 3–5 universities across selectivity levels.
4. Apply for DAAD Scholarship Simultaneously
   DAAD applications are separate from university admissions. Apply at daad.de — they require a research proposal, recommendation letters, and CV.
5. Open a German Blocked Account (Sperrkonto)
   Once admitted, open a Sperrkonto with Fintiba or Coracle online (no need to travel). Deposit €11,208 to prove financial capacity for your visa.
6. Apply for German Student Visa
   Book an appointment at the German Embassy Abuja or Consulate Lagos. Bring APS certificate, blocked account proof, admission letter, and health insurance.
7. Register Upon Arrival
   Register at the Einwohnermeldeamt (residents' registration office), enrol in public health insurance, and get your student immatriculation ID.
