Step-by-Step: Australia Awards Application Guide
- Check Eligibility (12 months before deadline)
Nigeria is an eligible country for Australia Awards. Confirm you meet the work experience requirement (2+ years), are under 40 for most programmes, and have not previously studied in Australia on government funding. - Select Your Programme
Australia Awards require you to list your proposed institution and programme. Research Australian universities in your field. The award will then be aligned to your approved programme. - Register and Apply Online
Applications open via the Australia Awards Online system (oasis.dfat.gov.au). Complete all sections — personal info, academic history, employment, community engagement, and development goals. - Write a Compelling Development Impact Statement
This is the heart of your Australia Awards application. You must articulate how your study will contribute to Nigeria's development in your sector. Be specific — reference policies, challenges, and your plan to address them upon return. - Gather Supporting Documents
Academic transcripts (certified), English test scores, passport, references, and employment evidence. All must be officially translated if not in English. - Attend Selection Interview
Australia Awards conducts in-person or online interviews in Nigeria. Prepare to discuss your development goals, leadership experience, and how you will apply your skills on return. - Pre-departure and Visa
After selection, DFAT coordinates your pre-departure training in Abuja, university enrolment, and CoE. Student visa is processed with DFAT's assistance.
